VOTING AS A COLLEGE STUDENT

CHOOSE WHERE TO REGISTER:

College students have a choice about where they want to register to vote. In South Carolina, students may register at their campus address OR the address you intend to return to while not in the college community (for example, family home). Only you can decide where you want your voice as a voter to be heard. 

Regardless of where you decide to register, each state has certain requirements in order to register. Click each button to understand how to register and other important registration information.

SOUTH CAROLINA REGISTRATION INFO:

In order to vote in South Carolina, you must be registered to vote at least 30 days prior to any election in order to vote in that election. (see S.C. Code of Laws 7-5-180)

In order to vote in the November General Election, voter registration deadlines are: 

  • Friday, October 4, 2024 at 5pm: In Person Voter Registration Deadline (unless county board holds weekend hours)

  • Sunday, October 6, 2024 at 11:59pm: Online, Fax, or Email Voter Registration Deadline 

  • Monday, October 7, 2024: By Mail Voter Registration Deadline (must be postmarked by this date)

    To register to vote in SC, you must:

    • Be a US citizen

    • Be at least 18 years old on or before the next election

    • Be a resident of South Carolina in the county & precinct in which you are registering 

    • Not be under a court order declaring you mentally incompetent

    • Not be confined to any public prison resulting from a conviction of a crime 

    • Have never been convicted of a felony or offense against the election laws OR if previously convicted, have served the entire sentence, including probation or parole, or have received a pardon for the conviction

    • There is no length of residency requirement in SC in order to register to vote.
